Udi and Lonny meet on the beach after a routine week, and nothing has changed. Only a strange word here, a surprising glance there. And when Lonny goes home, it seems to him that something has been lost that he has failed to preserve some warm and important part of life. “All at once Lonny was dissatisfied with everything, with the entire framework of the life that he had constructed slowly and with great effort, the anxieties and petty sacrifices, the miniscule but important pleasures, the freedom to do as one pleases, the pace and time. It was not his habit to complain, but now, suddenly, it all seemed pointless to him, and all he could see was Udi’s shoulders, the play of the great muscles of his arms which rippled as his body slowly changed position, like the contours of a landscape speeding past the window during a journey”. Two sensitive and precise stories, both close and alien, connected and detached, about the lives of two men as they observe one another and each examines himself in light of his old friend’s image, with affection and intimacy, envy and rivalry, flavored by memories of the past.
